FRASER Maclennan (Contractor) Ltd, based at Dormoch in Sutherland, has bought the company’s first ever Doosan crawler excavator – and the machine has been put straight to work on the Stroupster Wind Farm development in Caithness.

The DX340LC-3 34 tonne excavator was purchased from Inverurie-based Balgownie Ltd. The wind farm is located about 15 km north of Wick and 6 km south of John O’Groats.

Acquired by BayWa r.e. from RWE npower renewables in 2012, the Stroupster Wind Farm development has been granted planning permission for 13 turbines, bringing the scheme’s planned capacity up to 29.9 MW. Construction started on site in November last year and the project is planned to be fully operational in mid-2015.

Company owner, Fraser Maclennan said, “I recently tried out a Doosan excavator and was so impressed I decided to buy one for the company for the first time. The new DX340LC-3 model provides everything we need – high performance, comfort, dependability and fuel efficiency.”
