ABERDEEN-based David Smith Contractors Ltd has purchased a new Doosan DX530LC-3 52 tonne crawler excavator from Balgownie Ltd, based at Inverurie.

The Stage IIIB compliant DX530LC-3 model is the largest excavator that David Smith Contractors has ever bought and the first from the Doosan range. Immediately upon its arrival, the excavator was set to work in the company’s new quarry near Inverurie.

David Smith Contractors acquired the Smiddyburn Quarry five months ago and the DX530LC-3 excavator is used to extract rock from the face and load it into crushing and screening equipment, to produce material for use in the company’s civil engineering projects across Aberdeenshire.

David Smith, Managing Director of David Smith Contractors, said, “Balgownie was able to offer us a very attractive package that provides us with a bigger machine with the muscle needed to work efficiently in the quarry. The productivity of the new Doosan excavator ensures we have a good supply of aggregate for our own projects, providing us with further cost-savings by allowing us to keep these substantial costs in-house.

“With its wide undercarriage, the DX530LC-3 model produces exceptional stability and unmatched lifting capabilities. This is a mass excavation machine fitted with an extra heavy counterweight and a short front end to deliver more breakout force and tackle every tough digging job, so it will also be a very powerful tool for use on our own civils projects.”
