KELLY Plant Hire and JPB Civil Engineering, two companies that have never previously invested in Caterpillar equipment, have both purchased new Cat® 301.D mini hydraulic excavators from Bolton-based Cat Compact dealer Cautrac.

Following an initial trial period with a demonstrator model, Kelly Plant Hire, a successful and growing company with over 25 years on-site experience, has bolstered its plant hire fleet with the addition of three new Cat 301.7D’s.
JPB Civil Engineering, a construction, civil engineering and utilities business, has also welcomed four new Cat 301.7D’s to its fleet.
Cautrac Sales Manager, Paul Hyslop, said, “Cautrac has been able to use its strong presence within the region to reach out to customers that have not traditionally invested in Caterpillar equipment. Both deals reinforce the benefits of the Cat Compact dealership model, and the opportunities available to local dealers supported by the nationwide Finning network.
“We were able to supply both Kelly Plant Hire and JPB Civil Engineering with a demonstrator model, allowing them to experience first hand how the Cat 301.7D operates and see the benefits it can bring to customers.
“Although these are the first Caterpillar machines purchased by both companies, we are confident the overall quality of the machines will lead to further business.”

The Cat 301.7D is a high performance mini hydraulic excavator ideal for utility contractors due to it’s versatility, controllability and operator comfort.
Commenting on the deal, Peter Reilly, Managing Director of Kelly Plant Hire, said, “We hire to a lot of utility contractors, so it’s important we have a diverse and robust plant hire fleet that can cater to the needs of our customers. In the past we have always supplied equipment from one manufacturer, however, after testing with a demonstrator model, we took the decision to purchase the three Caterpillar machines. We’re confident our clients will benefit from the increased offering of mini excavators, and there is the potential for us to invest in more units in the future.”
James Brennan, Managing Director of JPB Civil Engineering, added, “Having previously been loyal to a single brand, we were unsure as to whether integrating equipment from another manufacturer into our fleet would have made financial sense. When Cautrac offered us a demonstrator Cat 301.7D, we were impressed with the power, stability and smooth hydraulics.”
