MORE than 7000 residents in parts of East Ayrshire are receiving clearer, fresher drinking water following the completion of a water mains upgrade.
Scottish Water completed a £1.6m project that involved the upgrading of more than 30 miles of water mains in parts of the area served by the Corsehouse Water Treatment Works.
The investment has also improved security of supply for customers in the Hillend area near Lugton where three miles of water mains which have been affected by bursts in the past were replaced.
Jim Hassan, Scottish Water’s water operations manager, said, “We are delighted to have completed this major project to invest in key stretches of our water infrastructure in these areas.
“Our substantial improvement work will help ensure a supply of clear, fresh drinking water for customers in the Fenwick, Dunlop, Lugton and Stewarton areas for years to come.”
The work, which was carried out by contractors George Leslie, mainly involved a mixture of flushing or cleaning of stretches of mains and the installation of new plastic lining in other stretches.
The project also included the replacement of cast-iron mains in the Hillend area with new plastic mains.
