Bobcat’s E62 and E85 excavators are claimed to raise the bar with respect to productivity, fuel efficiency, controllability and operator comfort

Bobcat

BOBCAT has launched two new compact excavators in the 6-8-tonne weight range. The E62 6-tonne and E85 8-tonne reduced tail swing (RTS) models replace the previous E60 and E80 models. The new excavators share features aimed at maximising performance, versatility, operator comfort, durability, ease of maintenance and serviceability.

The E62 compact excavator is powered by the Stage IIIA-compliant 36.2 kW liquid-cooled Yanmar 4TNV94L diesel engine running at a maximum speed of 2200 rpm, providing abundant power and reliability for a machine of this size. Electronic injection together with automatic idle support the quest for optimum fuel efficiency at all times.
The E85 model is powered by the Yanmar 4TNV98C-VDB8 Stage IIIB-compliant diesel engine providing 44.3 kW of power at 2100 RPM and meeting Stage IIIB emission requirements through the use of exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) and diesel particulate filter (DPF) after-treatment technologies. Complementing the 10% increase in power over the E80 model, the new E85 excavator offers a much higher fuel efficiency, which is among the best on the market.
Both excavators feature upgraded hydraulic systems resulting in higher pressures and flows, generating smoother and greater digging and lifting performances.

Digging force
The new E62 compact excavator offers a 10% increase in the arm digging force to 28.7 kN and an 8% increase in the bucket digging force to 43.1 kN in the short arm version. In the E85 model, the bucket digging force has been significantly increased to 61.8 kN, a 13% increase over the previous model.
The E62 and E85 models are standard equipped with primary and secondary auxiliary hydraulic lines offering both dual directional and proportional flow for increased versatility. A thumb control is integrated in the joysticks for better metering of the boom swing and the proportional auxiliary hydraulics.
Selectable auxiliary hydraulic flow settings for attachments can be chosen on Auxiliary Screen on the new full colour 5.7 inch LCD monitor in the cab, which offers the operator a clear overview of information and multiple functionalities. There is anti-theft protection as standard via a password lock-out system.

Auto-shift for turning
The travel motors are equipped as standard with the auto-shift feature providing improved manoeuvrability particularly when turning and levelling, as the system automatically shifts down under heavy loads. Travel speeds have been increased in both the low and high range.
To optimise safety in lifting applications, both models have boom and arm load holding valves and an overload warning device as standard, to facilitate certification for lifting applications.
In common with the other models in the Bobcat range, both excavators are standard equipped with the floating blade feature for improved levelling capabilities. In the E62 model, the height of the dozer blade has also been increased to further enhance dozer capability.
For efficient refuelling in the E62 and E85 compact excavators, both machines are equipped with an electric refuelling pump as standard. The low emissions and external noise levels (97 and 98 dBA in the E62 and E85, respectively) ensure these excavators are suitable for operation in noise sensitive areas and at night.

Getting in and out
The space available in the new ROPS operator cab is similar to that found on much larger medium and heavy-duty machines. The cab has a large entrance and exit, ensuring it is easy to get in and out.
The cab offers low operator noise levels of 73 and 71 dBA, respectively, in the E62 and E85 models. A high capacity heating and air conditioning system is fitted as standard, with fully adjustable vents installed at both the front and rear of the operator’s seat to maximise efficiency.
The interior of the cab has been ergonomically designed to optimise operator comfort and features an increased foot rest area and an additional cup holder, and the openness of the cab provides a wide field of view and excellent all-round visibility. The cab lighting, sun visor and side mirror all contribute to a safe and pleasant working environment for the operator.
The position and angle of the seat cushion as well as the position of the consoles can be adjusted to suit the operator. Additional comfort is provided by the seat back pocket and the lumbar support.
