A Liebherr double for Whyte Cargo Handlers

ANGUS-based Whyte Cargo Handlers has taken delivery of two Liebherr LTM 1150-5.3 mobile cranes.

The five-axle crane boasts a seven-section 66m main boom, topped by a 10.8 to 19m double swingaway fly jib that offsets hydraulically by up to 40 degrees. The 150-tonne model has a maximum ballast of 45 tonnes and can travel with 29 tonnes. The LTM 1150-5.3 has a lifting height of 92m and a lifting radius of 72m.

Extra specification includes Liebherr’s optional extra boom head camera system, designed to provide the operator with ‘excellent’ visibility of the load below the hook. Liebherr explained that this safety aspect particularly lends itself to Whyte’s cargo handling activities.

John Mullen, MD of Whyte Cargo Handlers, said, “We offer a comprehensive range of cargo handling services which includes complex and heavy lifts, often working around the clock to meet the demands of the busy port requirements. Therefore, we want to ensure we have the right equipment to perform these lifts and that’s why we have continued to invest in Liebherr who not only supply state-of-the-art cranes but also have the backup to support them.”

Established in 1996, Whyte Cargo Handlers operates a fleet of all terrain cranes, forklift trucks, telehandlers, and cargo handling equipment throughout Scotland including the Ports of Montrose, Aberdeen, Peterhead, Fraserburgh, Dundee, Methil, Rosyth, and Leith.
